How it works
How a charity step challenge works
Choose a cause and set a budget
Your company picks the charity and commits a fundraising budget. This is the money your people will unlock by moving.
Everyone gets an equal share
The budget is split evenly across teams, and then across the teammates in each team. Everyone holds a share to unlock.
Steps unlock the money
Each teammate sets a personal step goal. As they move towards it, their share unlocks in step with their progress, up to 100%.
Add donations if you like
You can also open a donation page, so colleagues, friends and family can sponsor the effort on top of the company budget.
Watch the total grow
Everyone sees a single running total for the whole challenge. Nobody is singled out, and every step visibly helps the cause.
Scoring
Every step unlocks more
The Charity Challenge is built on Leave No One Behind. Teams are ranked on the money they have unlocked, and each teammate’s contribution is capped at their own share, so the way to raise more is to help every teammate reach their goal.
Donations from sponsors add to the fundraising total, but they never affect the leaderboard. The game is always won by moving.
| Teammate | Share to unlock | Progress to goal | Unlocked |
|---|---|---|---|
| Alice | €500 | 120% | €500 |
| Mary | €500 | 100% | €500 |
| Bob | €500 | 85% | €425 |
| Dan | €500 | 50% | €250 |
Team total: €1,675 of €2,000 unlocked
Why it works
Five pillars, one game
Every GoChallenge format is built on the same five pillars. Here is how Charity Challenge delivers each one.
- 01
Inclusion
Every teammate holds an equal share, whatever step goal they set.
- 02
Motivation
Each walk moves real money towards a cause people care about.
- 03
Accountability
A teammate’s share only unlocks if they move, so everyone has a part to play.
- 04
Community
One shared total gives the whole company a single thing to cheer for.
- 05
Team Spirit
Teams finish knowing exactly what they raised together.

How does a charity step challenge work?
Your company commits a fundraising budget to a charity. The budget is shared equally across teams and teammates, and each person unlocks their share by progressing towards a personal step goal. At 100% of their goal, their full share is unlocked.
Who chooses the charity?
You do. Your company chooses the cause and sets the fundraising budget, in euro, sterling or US dollars.
Can employees and their friends donate too?
Yes. You can add a donation page so people can sponsor the challenge. Donations add to the fundraising total but do not affect team standings.
Does a teammate who does more steps raise more money?
Each teammate’s share is capped once they reach 100% of their own goal. Extra steps beyond that do not unlock more, which keeps the focus on getting every teammate to their goal.
How does a team win?
The team that has unlocked the most of its share when the challenge closes wins. The challenge always runs to its close date.
